Thea Paulsrud has now released her debut album Lay With Me For A While. The full-length album offers clear nods to traditional soul: grand string arrangements and vocal harmonies, a steady groove with playful bursts in the rhythm section, as well as delicate vocal performances delivered intimately. Inspired by greats such as Carole King and Joni Mitchell, Lay With Me For A While puts storytelling at the center, reflecting on a young adult’s varied relationships, worries about the future—and hope for humanity.
Lay With Me For A While consists of 10 tracks, inviting both dancing and introspection over the course of its 40-plus minutes. Tracks 4 and 5 are currently available only on vinyl and in the accompanying songbook—a small but intentional move for an artist on a small indie label navigating a vast streaming world. These tracks will be made available for streaming in the fall.
